Description
The process for converting your charity to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) will depend on the structure of the existing charity. If your charity is an association or a charitable trust, the process will involve setting up a new CIO and then transferring the assets of the existing charity to the new CIO registered for that purpose. If your existing charity is a charitable company, you can convert the company to a CIO without setting up a new CIO
Our approach is to offer you a free initial telephone consultation about your proposal to help you to decide if converting to a CIO is the right option for you
If you then decide to use our Conversion to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation service, we will use our extensive knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework that applies to charities to guide you through the process and what steps you need to take. We will prepare a CIO constitution with objects and administrative provisions that are suitable for your charity’s needs
We will also apply to register your new CIO with the Charity Commission or OSCR*. We will help you to collate all the relevant information and documents needed to support the application and complete and submit the application form on your behalf. We will then deal with all correspondence with the Charity Commission or OSCR until a registration decision has been made
Included in the price of this service:
Assessment of your proposal and guidance about what you need to do to convert to a CIO
Draft a CIO constitution with suitable objects and administrative clauses
Guidance about what documents and information you will need to register your new CIO as a charity
Prepare and submit the CIO registration application form on your behalf
In consultation with you, deal with all ongoing correspondence with the Charity Commission or OSCR until a registration decision is made
Business Plan template and guide to writing a charity business plan

*Please note that there is an additional fee of £200 if we apply on your behalf to register as a charity with both the Charity Commission and OSCR
